How to add a rating system to your website

Code Snippet

Here is an example snippet for your website. If you don’t have the option to add code to bottom of the page, you can paste both parts one after the other.

Step 1 – The placement

<!– Place where you want testimonials to appear –>
<div id=”trobot”></div>

Step 2 – Choose your preferred widget style

For Standard Testimonials use this code: (no ratings)

<!– Best placed at bottom of page before closing “body” tag –>
<script type=”text/javascript” defer src=”//www.testimonialrobot.com/ver/latest/trobot-js.php?add=true&id=iX56f0TJ&c=222&b=e8e8e8&d=true&t=t”></script>

For Reviews Version starstarstarstarstar use this code: (allows ratings)

<!– Best placed at bottom of page before closing “body” tag –>
<script type=”text/javascript” defer src=”//www.testimonialrobot.com/ver/latest/trobot-js.php?add=true&id=iX56f0TJ&c=222&b=e8e8e8&d=true&t=r”></script>

For Slider/Scrolling Version

With inline form (to disable ratings just change t=r to t=t)

<!– Best placed at bottom of page before closing “body” tag –>
<script type=”text/javascript” defer src=”//www.testimonialrobot.com/ver/latest/trobot-scr-js.php?add=true&id=iX56f0TJ&c=222&b=e8e8e8&d=true&t=r&form=true”></script><script type=”text/javascript” defer src=”//www.testimonialrobot.com/tr-scroller.js”></script>

Like so, for standard testimonials…

<!– Best placed at bottom of page before closing “body” tag –> <script type=”text/javascript” src=”//www.testimonialrobot.com/ver/latest/trobot-js.php?add=true&id=iX56f0TJ&c=222&b=e8e8e8&d=true&t=t”></script>

</body>
</html>

Is Trip Advisor taking over your brand?

Well it would seem this is a statement made by the guys over at Thatagency.com

They believe that Trip Advisor is gaining more from the widget presence than the individual customers that show their widget. It’s an interesting thought and a dilemma and probably also applies for Twitter or Facebook plugins too.

Our widget doesn’t really have much branding that links back to us except for when actions are taken to post data. We don’t spread our name or logo all over the widget, so it very much White-labelled. But maybe there is value in doing that? For both us and our customers.

We will look into a branded stamp of approval that gives our service more weight while also giving a nice new add-on for our customers. But we will not make it mandatory. We will offer this as a free extra to our service.

Our service could be seen as an alternative to the Trip Advisor ratings. However, we do not do everything they do and we are not just a Hotel or B&B rating service – we rate all businesses.

For those that are worried about their dependency on Trip Advisor, we are happy to provide a service that offers a choice.

Make New Features Worthwhile

When we first setup Testimonial Robot it was to fix a problem I myself had encountered. Reducing my own pain led to a batch of immediate signups within the first couple of weeks of launching the beta – with no advertising!

Within a few months our beta Free version was getting too many signups and we decided to remove the free version so we could offer a premium service to our paying users.

The support requests would come from Free and Paid users but mainly the Free guys were in more of a hurry to setup it seemed. As a bootstrapped startup you sometimes have to choose whether non-revenue generating traction or slow steady growth with revenue is better. We chose the latter.

With our goal focused on SME businesses online we want to add features that ONLY add value. Our newest features are the Share Requests you can send out from the dashboard to reviewers.

The new features are starting to prove popular as we can track results via Sendgrid reports of our daily volumes.

Adding the new features, making them sticky and providing a clear benefit for the customer is working and our signups are starting to pick up pace as a result.

More social features will be added in the coming weeks also to provide even more value to our customer base.

You will be rewarded with extra traction if you focus on delivering value for your current customers.

We will be tracking our future feature additions as diary entries on this blog so we can learn from them.

Have a great day,

Gary Plowman

Dashboard Stats

Over the next week or so we will be introducing the new feature of Dashboard Stats to improve summary information at a glance.

Example of some of the info that will be shown:

# Approved Entries
# Awaiting Approval
# Share Requests

…and so on.

We want our users to find the back-end useful and user-friendly so please let us know if we can improve it for you.

Learning to share

Social Sharing is going to play a bigger part in our service from now on.  We would encourage our users to use the new Twitter and Facebook share request buttons on the dashboard for any recently added testimonials or reviews.

How the button appears on the new version of the dashboard

The feature will record and show if successful along with the count of the requests sent to date.

Users are allowed to send up to 3 requests per individual testimonial / review entry. Thus avoiding any repetitive email requests to customers.

The customer will be sent an html formatted email with a clear Call to Action to share the testimonial they provided to their network of followers.

Further to this, we will be tracking shares as a Metric in the new Dashboard Stats display which will be added to your dashboard very soon.

So start getting into the habit of hitting the Share button on your dashboard.
